As left-wing protests and riots have targeted federal law enforcement across the country, President Donald Trump has pledged to crack down on the shadowy foreign entities funding much of the unrest and violence. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is making good on that promise.

According to a report from Fox News, a federal grand jury in the Southern District of New York has launched an investigation into wealthy tech tycoon Neville Roy Singham, a centimillionaire and former Microsoft executive now based in China and closely linked to both the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and left-wing activism and terrorism in the U.S.

The grand jury has issued subpoenas seeking information from financial institutions related to Singham’s financial network. The left-wing businessman has poured nearly $300 million into a Goldman Sachs philanthropy fund and multiple shell corporations, which then dispersed the funds to left-wing activists and agitators in the U.S. Fox News reported that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met earlier this year with Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO David Solomon to discuss Singham’s use of the Goldman Sachs Donor Advised Philanthropy Fund for Wealth Management to funnel millions of dollars into far-left nonprofits and causes, reportedly warning Solomon that if Goldman Sachs did not cooperate with the investigation then Solomon and others may face investigations for conspiracy.

Singham has long been linked to left-wing causes, especially through his wife, Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans. He has also funded organizations such as the People’s Forum, where nearly all of the progressive group’s operating budget came from Singham in recent years; the Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) Coalition, responsible for organizing anti-Israel protests and demonstrations; the Transcontinental Institute for Social Research, an anti-imperialist organization where Singham serves on the international advisory board and his son serves as a researcher; and both the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) and International People’s Assembly (IPA), both of which are activist organizations involved in planning, coordinating, and mobilizing protests.

While federal authorities have expressed interest in Singham’s funding operations at various times in the past, scrutiny intensified in 2025, as Singham-linked organizations participated in explosive riots in opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and in the wake of the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, whose murder has been tied to Antifa and similar organizations. Singham has reportedly distributed nearly $100 million to activist groups and organizations linked to Antifa.

According to Fox News, the federal probe is also looking into Singham’s wife, who serves on the boards of many of the organizations Singham funds. Both Singham and Evans have been closely linked to the CCP, with Singham openly espousing Maoist ideology and tactics and reportedly playing a role in crafting CCP propaganda, especially for American consumption. A prior Fox News investigation found that Singham has funneled nearly $600 million into left-wing activist groups globally, filtering through a core network of 67 organizations to a broader network of roughly 2,000 groups, many of which amplify pro-CCP and pro-communist messaging and propaganda. Nearly $300 million of that money went into U.S.-based activist groups.

While most of Singham’s investments in U.S. left-wing activism (a combined total of nearly $167 million) were funneled through a pair of now-defunct shell corporations, more than $110 million was laundered through the Goldman Sachs philanthropy fund. Organizations benefitting from Singham’s funding included the People’s Support Foundation, the People’s Forum, and Code Pink, all of which list Evans as a board member; in addition to the Justice and Education Fund, Tricontinental, and Breakthrough Media, all of which feature self-described communists and Marxists as board members.

In comments to The Washington Stand, Capital Research Center Senior Research Analyst Robert Stilson said, “Singham and Evans appear to sit at the center of what is presently one of the most vigorous far-left activist networks in the American nonprofit sector. Those associated with this network express views that are consistently hostile towards the United States, Israel, and the democratic West more broadly.” He continued, “They also show a corresponding affinity for America’s authoritarian geopolitical rivals, such as China and Cuba. Much of the funding that supports this network is routed through a complex constellation of tax-exempt entities.”
