‘Your Ideology Castrated Me’: Altercation over Trans Issue Breaks Out at Portland Thorns Game
The Department of Justice is investigating after a dispute occurred at a Portland Thorns game between anti-biological reality and pro-biblical gender design spectators.
A group of women taking a stand for protecting women’s sports wearing “XX-XY” shirts were escorted out by stadium security following a confrontation with other audience members waving a “transgender” flag. A DOJ spokesperson told Fox News, “The Justice Department is aware of these reports and will review the matter thoroughly. Where the facts and the law warrant action, the Department will not hesitate to act.” A separate official continued, “Based on what is known so far, the conduct described appears to raise viewpoint discrimination and First Amendment questions rather than sex discrimination. The Department is reviewing it.”
Women’s rights activist Amy Sousa, who helped organize the group of XX-XY wearing fans alongside Kruse, remarked to OutKick that the pro-trans fans attacked her group. “We were attacked by fans. We were hit with flags,” she said.
Footage captured by OutKick shows an unidentified woman in an “XX-XY” shirt yelling at those carrying flags to stop touching her with them. “Your ideology castrated me,” she tells them.
Independent journalist Brandi Kruse took to X to share his experience. “I was just forcefully removed from a @ThornsFC game for the crime of wearing an @xx_xyathletics t-shirt. I am in shock. We peacefully wore our shirts. We were assaulted by fans. Then WE were forced to leave — with FORCE by stadium security. I am utterly in shock.”
Footage captured by Kruse shows security at the soccer event telling Kruse to leave and forcibly removing her after she refused. Video also shows Kruse asserting that she has not done anything wrong.
Kruse highlighted what she found to be hypocrisy in an additional post, observing how spectators wearing shirts with pro-trans messages were not made to leave. “None of them were removed,” she wrote. “They have chants about burning people alive. Fans assaulted multiple people wearing @xx_xyathletics shirts. None of them were removed. I am quite literally in shock.”
Jennifer Sey, founder and CEO of XX-XY Athletics, told The Washington Stand she is proud of the women who stood up for biological reality at the game. “This weekend at the Portland Thorns game, a group of women showed up in shirts that simply say women’s sports are for women. They were peaceful. They held a banner that said, ‘Save Women’s Sports,’” she stated. “For that, they were struck with flagpoles, shoved, and verbally assaulted by the crowd — then forcibly removed by security. That is not tolerance. That is the erasure of women’s boundaries, rights, dignity and safety. These women are the definition of good trouble. They are holding the line for every girl and woman who still believes fairness and reality matter. They will not be daunted. I salute them.”
According to reports, the Portland Police Bureau was not responsible for removing the women from the event.
“Off duty PPB officers are routinely hired to work at professional games and other events at various venues in Portland, and there were several at the Thorns game last night,” Sergeant Kevin Allen explained to Fox News. “PPB officers were not involved in any removals. They were called in when some individuals were refusing to leave and laying down, blocking an exit. When asked by police officers, the individuals agreed to leave. Outside, in an effort to promote public safety, officers did separate two groups with opposing viewpoints for a short time.”
“Two potential crimes were reported, case numbers 26-309064 (alleged harassment) 26-309306 (alleged vandalism). No one reported any injuries to police, and no injuries were visible. No immediate arrests were made or citations issued. The incidents are under investigation. Officers were wearing and activated BWCs according to PPB policy.”
Matt Calkins, a reporter for Outkick, shared on X that he had his phone knocked out of his hand and beer poured down his neck as he attempted to cover the unfolding altercation. A stadium security guard also yanked Calkins’s press pass from his neck before returning it.
Alleigh Marré, executive director of American Parents Coalition, told TWS that the organization supports the DOJ’s investigation of “what appears to be viewpoint discrimination.”
“Women’s sports exist because women before us fought for the right to compete on a fair and equal playing field,” she emphasized. “The idea that Title IX can be seemingly ignored in sports and women standing up for women’s sports can be physically intimidated and forcibly removed from a women’s sporting event simply for expressing support for those protections is deeply disturbing.”
