Less than 48 hours after American bombers struck Iran’s nuclear weapons bunkers, Israel and Iran struck a ceasefire, President Donald Trump announced on Monday evening. “Congratulations to everyone!” he declared in a Truth Social post touting the win. A few late hits nearly upset Trump’s triumph, but the ceasefire appears to be holding for now.

“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” Trump wrote at 6:02 p.m. Eastern time. “On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR.’”

The U.S. persuaded Israel to agree to the ceasefire, and “the president asked Qatar to help persuade Iran to do the same,” an anonymous diplomat told Fox News.

Although the exact terms of the ceasefire have not been publicly specified, Trump seemed satisfied simply to celebrate the well-branded win. “This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!” he declared.

Trump’s ceasefire announcement came hours after Iran’s token strike against a U.S. military base in Qatar. For the sake of its own pride, the Iranian regime believed it had to retaliate for America’s devastating bombing on Saturday. On Monday afternoon, it launched missiles at a U.S. air base recently emptied of most of its planes. Iran also gave Qatar advance warning of the attack, enabling Qatari missile defenses to easily intercept the missiles. The lackluster response signaled the Iranian regime’s evident readiness to extract itself from a losing fight.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed on Tuesday that Israel had agreed to the ceasefire. “In light of the achievement of the operation’s goals, and in full coordination with President Trump, Israel agreed to the President’s proposal for a mutual ceasefire,” his office said.

Four hours before the ceasefire took effect (at 7 a.m. local time), Israel conducted one final bombing run against the Iranian regime, striking, “regime targets and governmental repression bodies in the heart of Tehran, including the Basij headquarters, the Evin Prison for political prisoners and regime opponents, the ‘Destruction of Israel’ clock in Palestine Square, the internal security headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards, the ideology headquarters, and other regime targets,” according to Defense Minister Israel Katz.

Netanyahu’s office later said it eliminated hundreds of Iranian security personnel, who would be the front-line troops to repress any uprising of the Iranian people.

After initially denying the existence of a ceasefire deal, Iran said it would end its military campaign against Israel at 4 a.m. Iranian time. Shortly beforehand, Iran also conducted one last strike; it launched missiles at Israeli civilians, killing four civilians in Beersheba.

Six minutes after the ceasefire was scheduled to take effect, Iran launched another missile at Israel at 7:06 a.m. local time, followed by two more missiles at 10:25 a.m., according to Netanyahu’s office. Iranian state TV then announced that the ceasefire deal had been “imposed on the enemy” after successful missile strikes. In reality, the three tardy missiles caused no damage.

But Israel did not allow the late hits to go unanswered. Defense Minister Katz vowed to “respond forcefully” with “high-intensity strikes against regime targets in the heart of Tehran.”

But before Israeli planes could reach their targets, Trump erupted in anger toward both sides for throwing the ceasefire into jeopardy. Iran “violated it, but Israel violated it too. … I’m not happy with Israel,” he declared. “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they’re doing.”

Trump called Netanyahu and was “firm and direct” in insisting that he turn the planes around, according to a White House source. Israeli sources also confirmed this account: “[F]ollowing President Trump’s conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu, Israel refrained from additional attacks.”

“ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect!” Trump announced.

According to Netanyahu’s office, “the Israeli Air Force destroyed a radar installation near Tehran” but “refrained from carrying out additional strikes.”

Israeli leadership was “stunned” and “embarrassed” by Trump’s harsh reaction, an anonymous source told NBC News. “They were surprised that he went and did all that in such a public way and basically switched on them very quickly. They just ended this war on a high, and then this is kind of a little … nick.”

But Trump’s hard-nosed negotiation seems to have successfully reinforced the ceasefire. Trump announced in all caps on Truth Social, “the ceasefire is now in effect. Please do not violate it!”

For Israel, “the campaign against Iran is not over,” said Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of the General Staff Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir. “We’ve set Iran’s nuclear project back by years, and the same applies to its missile program. … Now the focus shifts back to Gaza — to bring the hostages home and to dismantle the Hamas regime.

“Despite the phenomenal achievement — we must keep our feet on the ground,” Zamir reiterated. “Many challenges still lie ahead. We must stay focused. There’s no time to rest on our laurels.”
