Federal Authorities Arrest Illegal Immigrant Terrorist Plot Mastermind - and Other Violent Criminals
The recent foiled terrorist plot targeting President Donald Trump and other attendees of a White House event is putting into focus the president’s promised deportation agenda. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Thursday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez, a Mexican national and illegal immigrant, for planning a terrorist attack targeting the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Freedom 250 event hosted at the White House over the weekend. According to DHS, Alvarez was the leader of a group of five suspects who plotted “to carry out a mass-casualty attack against government officials and other attendees at Sunday’s event at the White House.”
Using the alias “Shepherd,” Alvarez organized the attack, including the planned use of “counter sniper(s) and drones,” which he intended to be “as deadly as we can get.” Alvarez and his co-conspirators now face federal charges of conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit violence on White House grounds. “This illegal alien from Mexico should never have been allowed in our country. He was the ringleader of a failed terror attack targeting UFC Freedom 250 at the White House,” said Acting Assistant DHS Secretary Lauren Bis in a statement. “He and his co-conspirators now face charges of conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit violence on White House grounds. He will face justice and swiftly be removed from our country.”
Alvarez was arrested in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 14. According to DHS, he entered the U.S. on a temporary visitor’s visa as a minor and remained in the U.S. past his deadline for removal in 2001, nearly 25 years ago. He was granted protection from deportation under then-President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in 2014. Trump rescinded the DACA program during his first term in the White House, but it was re-implemented by Trump’s successor, Joe Biden. The second Trump administration has maintained its assertion that DACA does not allow illegal immigrants to legally remain in the U.S.
Nevertheless, Michelle Obama, spouse of the former president who established the DACA program, spoke in favor of the program and in favor of illegal immigrants on Thursday, during the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. “Dreamers aren’t Americans, too. They are America. They are the beating heart of this country. They are us, and we are them,” Michelle Obama said. The term “Dreamers” has been used colloquially to refer to DACA recipients. “To refuse to respect the contributions and experiences of people who are not exactly like us,” the former first lady added, “puts us all at risk.”
The news of Alvarez’s arrest comes as the Trump administration celebrates its 13th consecutive month with no foreigners apprehended at the U.S. border released into the country, in addition to the arrests of multiple illegal immigrants convicted of serious crimes. According to Breitbart News, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed that federal authorities released “zero” illegal immigrants into the U.S. in May. “Thirteen straight months of ZERO releases at the border,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said of the achievement. “The days of catch and release are over.”
Under the Biden administration, approximately 85% of illegal immigrants encountered by CBP at the nation’s border were released into the U.S. via various mechanisms, including “parole.” Under the second Trump administration, no illegal immigrants have been released into the U.S., and border encounters have plummeted by 94%, down from a monthly average under Biden of more than 200,000.
The Trump administration is also laying great emphasis on the crimes committed by illegal immigrants. Again, according to Breitbart News, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 735 illegal immigrants with criminal convictions in the Houston, Texas, area last month. Together, the arrested illegal immigrants accounted for more than 1,700 criminal convictions, including nearly 1,200 criminal convictions for violent crimes or threats to public safety.
“We’re releasing this data not because it stands out from any other month, but because this is a snapshot of who we’re arresting every single month, as a result of the reckless immigration policies enacted by prior administrations that allowed gang members, murderers, child rapists and other violent criminal illegal aliens to flood into the country unvetted,” ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston acting Field Office Director Gabriel Martinez said. “These are violent criminals who repeatedly violate our laws, and there’s no doubt if we don’t arrest and deport them from the U.S., they will continue to commit crimes, and more Americans will be victimized as a result.”
Criminal convictions included five counts of homicide; one count of attempted capital murder of a police officer; 38 counts of sex offenses, including 13 counts of sex offenses against children; 12 counts of sex trafficking; 170 counts of burglary, robbery, and theft; 224 counts of aggravated assault, assault, and battery; four counts of arson; 32 counts of illegal immigrant smuggling; 24 counts of hit-and-run incidents; 30 counts of weapons violations; three counts of kidnapping; 23 counts of domestic violence; eight counts of child abuse, cruelty, or neglect; 67 counts of resisting arrest, fleeing, and obstructing of justice; 495 counts of driving while intoxicated (DWI), including 10 hit-and-run DWIs and 47 illegal immigrants convicted of three DWIs, and 66 illegal immigrants convicted of two DWIs; two counts of gang activity; 11 counts of drug trafficking; 15 counts of terroristic threats; two counts of deadly conduct; 48 counts of fraud, forgery and identity theft; 161 counts of drug possession; 2 Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) counts; and 316 counts of other offenses, including money laundering, illegally operating a gambling establishment, criminal mischief, contributing alcohol to minors, destruction of evidence, disorderly conduct, disturbing public peace, refusing to aid an officer, failure to appear, unlawful assembly, witness tampering, counterfeiting, property-related crimes, and non-violent offenses.
Honduran national Jose Olban Martinez was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14. Cuban national Absalon Gonzalez Lopez was convicted of indecent exposure with a child and causing bodily injury to a child, elderly or disabled person, in addition to other crimes. Mexican national Juan Martin Lara-Goamez was convicted of indecency with a child with sexual contact, in addition, other crimes, including illegally entering the U.S. eight times. Honduran national Juan Jose Aguilera-Lemus was convicted of child abuse with bodily harm, in addition to a host of other violent crimes.
These illegal immigrants were arrested in one month by one ICE field office.
