The family behind the hit show “Duck Dynasty” is coming back to TV. From 2012-2017, the A&E network was the home of the series following the creators of a famous duck call business as they boldly proclaimed their Christian faith on air. Last year, Willie Robertson’s half of the family returned to the screen for a reboot, “Duck Dynasty: The Revival.” Now, Willie’s brother Jep along with his wife Jessica and their children will star in “Jep and Jess: Beyond the Bayou” premiering on Great American Pure Flix on August 15.

The show will follow Jep and Jessica as they build property on Comanche Moon Ranch in Mingus, Texas. The Robertsons are originally from West Monroe, Louisiana. Filming “Beyond the Bayou” has brought them back to the Lone Star state, their home for a few years after “Duck Dynasty” wrapped in 2017. 

“Once we got out there [Comanche Moon Ranch], it became something bigger and more about community and getting to know these other ranchers, and how do we make this this 2,400-acre ranch broken up into small ranchettes? How do we make it feel more community like?” Jessica Robertson told Family Research Council’s Casey Harper during “Washington Watch” last week. “And so, we’ve gotten to meet other ranchers and implement some things out there that I think bring us together. And that’s the beauty of it.”

Jep said that when he is recognized in public, strangers often thank him for making family-friendly television. He also shared that viewers often appreciate that the Robertsons aren’t afraid to pray onscreen. “[They say, ‘Thank you for] talking about Jesus and what He’s done for y’all.’”

Living on a ranch is a slower pace of life, the Robertsons mused. “You get to take a deep breath. You get to actually enjoy the scenery. You get to enjoy hiking and fishing and playing cornhole, those things that get you out of the house and get to talking, whether it’s around the dinner table, or cooking together, or just being outside.”

Jep and Jessica said they hope “Beyond the Bayou” will bring encouragement to families that watch. 

“They can actually see the beauty of God’s creation and actually be able to come together and have that family time and make it a point to get outside and to do something together, or just to sit and talk and interact versus being on your phone and scrolling,” Jessica shared.

Phil Robertson, Jep’s father and the founder of the family business, Duck Commander, passed away last year after struggling with Alzheimer’s and a blood disorder at the age of 79. 

Jep said that Phil always emphasized the beauty of creation. “He was like, ‘Look, God made such a beautiful place for us here, and we should enjoy it.’ And it’s something about being out in the outdoors, it brings you closer to God.”

“[A]ll this didn’t come together by chance, it’s very obvious that this place was created,” Jep continued. “I just want to pass that legacy down to other people.”

For the Robertson family, life on the ranch is a promise of endless opportunities. “The beauty is being able to build something of our own for our family to go and enjoy, but also for other people to get out of the city and enjoy. Whether it’s family reunions, Bible study groups, corporate events … weddings too!”

“If you like what we’re doing, you can come buy land right next to us,” Jep added. 

Jessica emphasized that they’re grateful that their show will air on Great American Pure Flix. “We love them and would not want to be on another network just because of the grounds they stand on.”
