Transgender-identifying protestors gathered outside of New York University’s Langone Hospital on Tuesday and injected themselves with cross-sex hormones to display outrage over the hospital canceling sex-rejecting services for minors. A viral video on X depicts individuals using syringes to perform the injections.

“We’re taking our HR [hormone replacement] here at the doors of the people who have given up to demystify and normalize and celebrate our trans bodies in the face of NYU’s cowardice,” declared one of the protestors. 

This comes after President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice reached an understanding with NYU Langone and the University of Pittsburgh Medical (UPMC) last week. “Under the agreements, NYU and UPMC will cease providing these dangerous interventions to minors, which include administering puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones and performing surgical procedures,” the Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a statement. NYU will pay $8.5 million as a part of the resolutions and UPMC will pay $950,000. 

Brett Shumate, assistant attorney general for the Civil Division, said that it is a step in the right direction that both NYU and UPMC have agreed to the DOJ’s terms. 

“We appreciate that some of the nation’s largest and most prestigious hospital systems have agreed to cease harming minors under the guise of ‘gender-affirming care’ and agreed to pay for potential violations of federal law when they did so. But I want to be clear: our efforts and investigations into other providers are ongoing. Those that have broken the law and not resolved their potential liability will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.”

According to Washington Square News, transgender-identifying actress Ellen “Elliot” Page attended the protest. “This is a really serious situation that has dire consequences,” Page told WSN. “These healthcare bans have lead to higher rates of depression, as well as suicide. Our community is being denied care, as are so many marginalized communities that are being attacked right now.”

Walt Heyer, senior fellow at Family Research Council, told The Washington Stand that hormone replacement therapy cannot make an individual “transgender.” “The people who protest the NYU hospital for stopping the God-rejecting ‘gender procedures’ are apparently unaware that at no time in human history have hormones and surgery ever been effective in changing the biological structure of a man into a woman or a woman into a man.”

“It’s categorically impossible to ‘transgender’ from one sex to the other. It’s all fantasy and folklore promoted by individuals who disavow God and inner biological morphology,” he added.

David Closson, director of the Center for Biblical Worldview at FRC told TWS that individuals protesting in such a manner is alarming. “The viral videos of individuals injecting themselves with cross hormones to protest federal efforts to restrict gender transition procedures for minors offer a revealing commentary on the extent to which transgender ideology has shaped contemporary political discourse. Whatever the protesters intend to communicate, the spectacle illustrates both the intensity of their commitment and the deeply personal nature of the of their underlining confusion.”

“For Christians, the proper response to this stunt should include not only moral clarity, but genuine compassion,” he emphasized. “It is sobering to see people alter their bodies with powerful hormones as a form of political protest. Especially when the broader debate concerns whether children should be exposed to interventions with permanent consequences.”
