Va. Governor Launches Investigation into Abortion Scandal at Fairfax County School

August 14, 2025

School officials in Fairfax County, Virginia, have been accused of orchestrating and bankrolling students’ abortions without parental consent, and Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) is demanding accountability.

Once the news broke, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) launched an investigation into Centreville High School for allegedly arranging and funding the abortions for girls in 2021, including a 17-year-old, without notifying their parents. But Youngkin, wanting to ensure accountability, went a step further by directing state police to open a criminal investigation.

A press release from the governor’s office offered further details, stating, “Reports allege school officials may have arranged and paid for abortions for multiple minors without parental notification. Reports also indicate that the school administration may have known this was happening, and that school funding may have been used, which could include local, state and federal funds.” As The Washington Stand previously reported, FCPS claims it had no prior knowledge of these actions but that they have “taken immediate action engaging an external investigator to get the facts.”

“I am deeply concerned with the allegations that Fairfax County Public Schools officials arranged for minors to get abortions without parental consent and may have misused public funds to pay for them,” the governor said. “I am directing the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation to open a full criminal investigation into the matter immediately.”

Under Virginia state law, minors seeking abortions must obtain parental consent and notification. The school under investigation maintains a policy that encourages students who suspect they are pregnant to discuss their concerns with their parents or guardians. While the policy does not mandate staff to notify parents, it explicitly prohibits personnel from committing to keep such information confidential from parents, guardians, or appropriate school authorities.

Several pro-life organizations have expressed alarm over these allegations. If substantiated, FCPS could face severe consequences, including violations of school policy and Virginia state law, as well as being guilty of what many consider an assault on parental rights. As Family Research Council’s Mary Szoch previously told TWS, “Schools not informing parents, and worse, paying for the killing of a teenager’s unborn child is horrific. The school officials who did this should be held accountable.”

Concerning the investigation, Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, posted on X, “If proven true, charges must be brought against anyone who used tax dollars to coerce minors into having an abortion and took the Life of a precious child. Schools should not take the place of parents.” And as the organization emphasized in a separate post, “No taxpayer-funded institution should be complicit in ending preborn babies’ lives and hiding it from families.”

The W.C. Dispatch Substack that first revealed these accusations also issued a stark warning. “Parents across Virginia must now stare that question in the eye — and demand answers — because unless swift accountability follows, an unmarked door in Fairfax will stand as a grim reminder that parental rights, the backbone of any free republic, can be pushed to the curb with a sly smile and a deadbolt.”

Governor Youngkin has asked that if anyone has information related to the allegations that they contact the Virginia State Police at [email protected] or (804) 674-2196.
