Climate activist Greta Thunberg’s trip to Gaza has been postponed indefinitely, courtesy of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Thunberg had been attempting to sail to Gaza along with 11 other left-wing activists to protest Israel’s actions in Gaza and provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.
The group included multiple celebrities, left-wing radicals like Thiago Ávila, who attended the funeral of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and even Rima Hassan, who is a French member of the European parliament. The yacht, named the “Madleen,” was operated by the anti-Israel group, Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which aspires to end what they call, “the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza.”
The yacht was intercepted early in the morning on June 9th en route to the Gaza Strip by the IDF and redirected to Israel. The Israeli Foreign Ministry posted on X hours before intercepting the yacht, “The maritime zone off the coast of Gaza is closed to unauthorized vessels under a legal naval blockade, consistent with international law. The yacht is claiming that it is delivering humanitarian aid. In fact, it is a media gimmick for publicity (which includes less than a single truckload of aid) — a ‘selfie yacht.’”
After the boat was diverted, they posted, “All the passengers of the ‘selfie yacht’ are safe and unharmed. They were provided with sandwiches and water. The show is over.”
The ministry specified, “The tiny amount of aid that wasn’t consumed by the ‘celebrities’ will be transferred to Gaza through real humanitarian channels.” They added, “There are ways to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip — they do not involve Instagram selfies.”
Despite the friendly treatment, Thunberg still released a pre-recorded video claiming she was “kidnapped” by the “Israeli occupational forces.” She pleaded with her followers, “I urge all of my friends, family, and comrades to put pressure on the Swedish government to release me and the others as soon as possible.” Multiple left-wing global leaders like Emmanuel Macron immediately called for their release, with some nations requesting consular protection.
Israeli officials had pledged, “Upon arrival, arrangements will be made for their return to their respective home countries.” Thunberg has already been sent home, according to the ministry, which posted, “Greta Thunberg just departed Israel on a flight to Sweden (via France).” However, the Jewish state’s Defense Minister Israel Katz had plans before the group began their trek home. He reportedly instructed the IDF to “show the flotilla passengers the video of the horrors of the October 7 massacre.”
Hamas condemned the boat seizure, labeling it, “state terrorism.” Many others levied their support for Thunberg’s posse, creating an unexpected coalition. Even Andrew Tate, who’s staunchly anti-Israel, called for Thunberg to be freed. Tate may be the last person expected to speak out for Thunberg since he has been openly critical of her for years after a very public feud.
The alliance is indicative of a broader shift and political realignment. Ever since the horrific events of October 7, 2023, dozens of public figures who have rarely, if ever, agreed on anything seem to have found common ground on the Israel-Hamas conflict. There have been the usual suspects like Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who regularly slanders Israel with accusations of “genocide.” But others on the political right have joined in an anti-Israel alliance.
Candace Owens has been spreading disinformation about Israel for years. In an interview with Piers Morgan, she declared Israel is committing a “holocaust” and called the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu a “war criminal.” In an episode of her show in June 2024 she said, “It seems like our country is being held hostage by Israel.” She also labeled Judaism as a “pedophile-centric religion that believes in demons … [and] child sacrifice.”
A strange union has ostensibly been formed between groups that seemingly have little in common. A radical left-wing politician, a climate activist, a self-proclaimed “misogynist” influencer, an alleged Catholic commentator, and an Islamist terrorist organization are all united in their abhorrence for Israel, and often, the Jews themselves.
Despite the condemnation from all corners, Israel is continuing to press on. No “foreign policy” expert, “manosphere” influencer, or young climate activist can change the reality of the conflict. Hamas is an evil terrorist organization, dedicated to the eradication of the Jewish state, and Israel must eliminate every known terrorist in the region for their own preservation.
Israel won’t and shouldn’t stop until the hostages are freed, and Hamas is destroyed. As Israel’s official account stated on X, “55 hostages are still held captive by Hamas in Gaza, starved and tortured, in unimaginable conditions. Don’t stop talking about them. We will not rest until every last hostage comes home.”
