National Organization for Women Advocates for Gender-Confused Men, Not Women

November 1, 2023

“Trans women are women,” read a post from one of America’s largest feminist advocacy groups. The National Organization for Women (NOW) puts on a front supporting women, and you would assume they do based on their title — but that couldn’t be further from the truth. A group that explicitly labels itself “for women” supports the notion that biological men are, in fact, women. I don’t know about you, but this screams oxymoron.

NOW has roughly 500,000 members, and according to their core values, it seems this organization is for anything but women.

Evidently, they support LGBT ideology, which supposedly involves “infinite” genders. That should tell us right off the bat that they’re not focused on women. And by posting the statement, “Trans women are women,” NOW publicly affirms that they don’t care about what a woman really is. Whether it’s the infiltration of men into women’s sports, women’s beauty pageants, or women’s restrooms, it’s clear the transgender movement is attacking the integrity of real women on all fronts, and NOW is a big part of it.

Additionally, two of their core issues include “championing abortion rights” and “ending violence against women.” This is another head-scratcher. Since abortion is violence against women (as well as men, children, and society), it’s impossible to tackle those goals simultaneously. “Ending violence against women” cannot be done while supporting abortion, because it is both violence against and degrading to women.

Mary Szoch, director of the Center for Human Dignity at Family Research Council, shared with The Washington Stand, “While a woman cannot be reduced to her ability to carry a child, this orientation toward another is written into every woman’s very DNA, shaping the way she views and interacts with the world around her. Abortion is a crime against women because it goes against a woman’s very nature.”

She added, “Instead of the mother’s uterus being a home where her unborn child is safe, protected, and nourished until birth, it becomes the place where her child is killed.” Szoch continued, “[W]e know that countless abortions leave visible scars on a woman’s body, [but] the most egregious crimes perpetuated by the abortion industry are evidenced by the invisible scars left on a mother’s heart.”

It’s clear NOW is not an organization for women. NOW is an organization that seeks to destroy a woman’s gift of childbearing by promoting abortion. They seek to disregard a female’s biological makeup by making her no different to a man playing dress up. They take everything that makes a woman unique and beautiful and smother it in the deception of woke ideology.

Meg Kilgannon, senior fellow for Education Studies at FRC, commented to TWS, “The assumption that a group like NOW speaks for most American women is the result of stunted thinking or willful ignorance. Women have the same diversity of opinion on issues as men.” She added, “Is it sexist for NOW to claim to speak for all women? I think so.”

She discussed the irony in their “promotion of abortion on demand,” while also arguing that “their submission to the gender cult’s demand that men are women leaves no doubt” they are obliged to “left-wing political masters.”

For Kilgannon, NOW is not only an improper way to advocate for women, but they also “operate in service to postmodern men’s latest sexual convenience.” She added, “No one who understands God’s beautiful plan for human sexuality and the complementary relationship between men and women expects meaningful contributions to thought or discourse from groups like NOW.”

Anyone who understands God’s beautiful plan knows there are two sexes, and they were designed to complement each other. Pastor and theologian Kevin DeYoung said, “Women were made to be women, not a different kind of man.” I would say this quote works both ways, that men were made to be men, certainly not a different kind of woman. Biblically, God gave men the roles of provider, protector, and leader. By contrast, women are gifted with caregiving, nurturing, and homemaking. The women most rooted in their (biblical) femininity are some of the strongest and bravest women I know.

“Men and women were created with equal dignity and worth, but that should not be mistaken for men and women being interchangeable,” Szoch shared. Considering NOW’s post, she highlighted how men and women differ in many ways and added, “Attempts to erase this difference robs our society of the beauty of the complementarity of men and women. An organization meant to represent women should recognize this.” But it’s not just NOW promoting this blurring of biological lines.

Several women’s beauty pageants — including the Miss Universe Pageant — have given the title to biological men. Dylan Mulvaney, a trans-identifying man, was deemed “woman of the year” by an LGBT magazine. It’s getting hard to keep track of the numerous male athletes of average ability who have quickly risen to the top after they started competing against women and girls. Most recently, a male runner who was ranked 172nd among boys rose to 4th among girls.

All this to say, woke secular ideology is only straying further away from biological reality and biblical truth, which is demonstrated in the fact that woke secular ideology can’t (or won’t) tell you what a woman is.

It’s easy to believe the devil is big and ugly, but the reality is that he comes as what you most desire. The Bible states it is “no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). In this case, the enemy hands them rainbow-tinted glasses so they can see the world how they want it to be — a world where they feel they can deny basic biblical and scientific truths.

But Scripture makes it clear the day is coming when every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, and it will either be in joyous praise or in anger, fear, and trembling. And Christian, we need to pray for those entangled in woke ideology.
