Virginity and the Consequences of Consequence-Free Sex

February 1, 2024

The slaughter of abortion and the disorder of the Sexual Revolution are, to borrow William Shakespeare’s phrase, “two yoke-devil’s sworn to either’s purpose,” working hand-in-hand to claim the lives of children for profit and claim the souls of men and women for Hell. Wholesale abortion is, of course, a direct result of the cultural disaster known as the Sexual Revolution: that revolution, no less horrific than France’s Reign of Terror, successfully connived the modern world to divorce sexual pleasure from its natural and glorious fruit, the generation of new life, paving the way for the calamitous march of abortion, widespread homosexuality, and the burgeoning transgender movement.

Abortion behemoth Planned Parenthood’s obsessive focus on “sexual education” is a testament to the kinship between the Sexual Revolution’s perversions and the slaughter of the unborn, and the corrupt corporation’s latest “lesson” is an egregious example of the Sexual Revolution’s hatred of the reality of nature. In a recent video available online, a Planned Parenthood “sex educator” explained that there is actually no such thing as virginity. According to Planned Parenthood, “virginity is a completely made-up concept” and “a term that was created simply to control and shame people, mainly women.”

The video host explained that virginity is not, “medically,” a reality, as acts such as masturbation can impact the physical indicators of virginity in women. And what about men and women who identify as homosexual, who, the video host asks, “choose to have oral, anal or another type of sex instead?” There’s no real physical indication of virginity there, leading the perverse Planned Parenthood pedagogue to proclaim that “the idea of virginity is complete nonsense.”

This assertion in turn leads to one even more dangerous. “It’s time to throw away the notion of losing your virginity,” Planned Parenthood concludes. “What if instead of losing something, we reframe it as gaining? Because the truth is, when we make our own decision to become sexually active, we aren’t setting ourselves up to lose anything at all. We hope we are gaining things like intimacy, self-insight, pleasure, and empowerment.”

The sheer, audacious hubris of claiming that virginity — for centuries an emblem of innocence, virtue, and even value — is a fantastical fairy tale told to men and women to shame them into — well, into what? Into virtue and chastity? Into monogamy and marriage? That doesn’t sound like a bad thing by any means — is purely Luciferian, reminiscent of the Serpent hissing to the first man and woman in the Garden of Eden, “[Y]ou will be like gods” (Genesis 3:5). This ludicrous claim proffered by Planned Parenthood also reveals the key fallacy of both the Sexual Revolution and abortion.

Man is both body and soul. The great Christian philosopher Thomas Aquinas explained in the 13th century that the essence of man is a body-soul composite: not a body that has a soul nor a soul that has a body, but necessarily both. C.S. Lewis, in the sardonic character of the demon Screwtape, explained this concept a little more simply: “[F]or they constantly forget, what you must always remember, that they are animals and that whatever their bodies do affects their souls.” The sexual act is not, as the Sexual Revolution and its acolytes proclaim, a merely carnal act, but is an intense marriage of both the body and the soul. When ordered aright, it is a mirroring of the perfect love of the Holy Trinity, overflowing into the creation of new life. What a horror then is the doctrine of the Sexual Revolution: that there is no soul, that the sexual union is simply a fleshly, animalistic act, driven by base instinct and culminating in nothing but pleasure.

This willful misunderstanding or outright denial of God’s design for human sexuality is a misunderstanding or denial of reality: the reality of the spiritual world is ignored and suppressed so that one can enjoy the pleasures of the temporal world without consequence. Of course, so deeply wed are the spiritual and the temporal that even the temporal world makes consequence manifest — thus abortion is necessitated by those who buy into the lie of the Sexual Revolution. As above, so below: if the realities of the spiritual world are denied, so also will the realities of the temporal world need to be.

One of those realities that Planned Parenthood is clearly ready, willing, and even chomping at the bit to deny is the reality of virginity. Contrary to the abortion corporation’s claim, virginity is not a medical concept and, throughout history, has never relied on medical or even purely physical evidence to support its existence. Instead, virginity is a state of being, something not necessarily quantifiable nor even qualifiable by doctors or medical instruments. The term “virgin” comes from the Latin word “virgo,” which means “virgin” and was more than likely derived analogously from the terms “vireo” (meaning to be fresh, young, unspoiled) and “virga” (meaning a strip of wood). Although pagans, the ancient Romans were highly aware of the existence of the soul and the relationship between the spiritual and temporal worlds, and that understanding included the recognition of virginity as a virtuous and valuable state, a quality worth maintaining.

That understanding was perfected under Christianity, reaching its full maturity as an ordered part of God’s design for human sexuality, marriage, and family. For centuries, virginity as an ideal — for both men and women — has helped preserve the cohesion of the family, strengthen marriages, and inspire self-mastery among the peoples of the West. Just a few relatively short decades ago, the Sexual Revolution declared that virginity has no value, that what one does with one’s body does not in fact affect one’s soul.

An ardent disciple of that perverse philosophy, Planned Parenthood is now simply going the extra mile to the maxim’s inevitable conclusion: there is no such thing as virginity. After all, if the reason that what one does with one’s body does not affect one’s soul is that there is no such thing as a soul, then there is necessarily no such thing as virginity, as it is really a spiritual state determined by what one does with one’s body.

The effects of this monstrous lie will only serve to exacerbate the current crisis: if there is no such thing as virginity, if there is no unspoiledness to be spoiled, then why try to maintain a quality that isn’t real? Why not have sex sooner? Why not have sex with as many people as possible? There’s nothing to lose, after all. The more people seeking consequence-free sex, the more profits for Planned Parenthood when the consequences of consequence-free sex need to be killed.
