As we approach the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision, the landscape surrounding abortion as a political issue has changed significantly, even within the Republican Party. Some have called for simply leaving the issue to the states, while others, like Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have introduced legislation to protect life at the federal level. RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel has said, “Let’s talk about abortion, which has become a huge issue coming after the Dobbs decision…When you don’t respond, the lies become the truth.”
As presidential candidates begin to converge on Iowa, some pro-life activists are concerned that the issue could be overlooked altogether. To speak to the importance of the issue of life, Family Research Council will be facilitating a townhall meeting at a Des Moines church. FRC President Tony Perkins will join Sen. Graham, along with Bob Vander Plaats, president and CEO of The Family Leader, Mayra Rodriguez, former Planned Parenthood director and whistleblower, and Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, to speak about why the life issue is critical to the 2024 election.
The panelists plan to discuss practical ways to protect the unborn and explain their view that last summer’s ruling was merely the beginning of the fight across America. As many in the GOP look to sidestep the issue, these leaders will emphasize that there is still work that needs to be done.
