Don’t Be Mistaken: God Is Never Too Busy for You

There simply aren’t enough hours in a day!

The infamous words of nearly every person who has too much to do and simply not enough time to do it. And yet, even if there were more hours in a day, would they not just fill up with more tasks, more demands, and more noise?

It’s so easy to slip into an endless cycle of busyness. I remember vividly, having grown up in Europe as a military brat, what struck me most when we returned to America: everything moved at a breathless pace. People never seemed to slow down. The Europeans I knew lived a noticeably different rhythm. Granted, different governments and societal frameworks play a major role. Yet one of the most defining factors was their unapologetic emphasis on rest.

Many Europeans deeply value the midday pause — time to sip coffee, share a meal, or enjoy unhurried fellowship with loved ones. Where I lived in Italy, there were quiet evening hours that the whole neighborhood observed. In France, professionals are guaranteed weekends off, and even elementary school children receive Wednesdays as well. You get the point. Turn back toward America, and the default often feels like nothing but go, go, go.

This isn’t inherently wrong. Hard work and diligence are good. But for Christians, the constant press of busyness poses a particular danger. Our walk with God is our life. Time in His word and in prayer is not optional maintenance; it is the very heartbeat of our faith. Yet these are often the first things we set aside when the schedule tightens.

We know this tension all too well. We long for margin — to slow down, to breathe, to open our Bibles without glancing at the clock. When we fail to make time for what matters most, guilt and frustration quickly follow. But in that very struggle lies an invitation to cling to a far sweeter truth: Jesus will never be too busy for us.

The truth is, many of us are painfully aware of how busy we are. We long for more hours in a day — not to squeeze in more tasks, but simply to slow down, breathe, and feel less frantic. Maybe those extra hours would finally give us time for Bible reading and prayer, right? Yet when life spins out of control, we know we’re neglecting our spiritual needs, and the guilt feels defeating. We grow frustrated with ourselves — and often with others.

But here is the glorious truth that changes everything: Our Lord is abounding in steadfast love, full of grace, ever patient, and unwaveringly faithful. He has numbered the hairs on our heads. He’s numbered the grains of sand on the shore! He didn’t merely speak us into existence on a whim when it was convenient for Him. Instead, the Bible says He “knit” us together in our mothers’ wombs, knowing all our days before there was even one. He knew every thought before it reached our tongue. He knows us altogether. Nothing within us is hidden from Him.

This reveals far more than His divine power and sovereignty. It displays the depth of His tender care. Unlike the distant, impersonal gods of pagan worldviews, our God is intimately personal and actively involved in every detail of the lives He has made — including yours and mine.

What a beautiful reality! What other religion can claim that their God left the glory of heaven to dwell among us? What other faith can say their God suffered and died for His people so they could one day dwell with Him forever? I can promise you this: the living God of the Bible is the one and only true God — the One who stooped down and, “though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:6-8).

This is a God — our God — who loves us! He cares for and watches over us! And He will never be too busy for us. “To me,” said the late pastor R.C. Sproul, “There’s nothing more comforting to know that there is a divine Providence who’s aware … of every one of my tears, every one of my aches, and every one of my fears.” And as C.H. Spurgeon emphasized, “There is no time of day or night that His throne is inaccessible.”

When busyness makes God feel distant, don’t be mistaken — He is never too busy for you. Let this truth pull you toward Him, not out of guilt, but out of confident assurance in His tender care. He does not call you to set aside time with Him because He needs it. He calls you because you desperately need it.

So, bring your exhaustion, your packed calendar, your scattered thoughts, and your weary heart. Lay them at the feet of the One who holds time itself in His hands. In the quiet moments you carve out for Him, you will find not another demand, but rest for your soul. The God who never sleeps, who never grows impatient, who never turns away is waiting. And in His presence, even the busiest life finds its true rhythm.

Perhaps we, too, will one day echo the heart of that faithful Christian of old who said, “I have so much business to do today that I shall not be able to get through it with less than three hours’ prayer.”
