Parents Have the Right to Resist Gender Theory Indoctrination

March 2, 2023

Christian apologist Hillary Morgan Ferrar has written, “Agendas are often promoted through media and education until they become so ingrained that they define the new normal. We must resist agendas which rewrite the rules of truth and morality and teach our kids to do the same” (“Mama Bear Apologetics Guide to Sexuality,” p 71).

K. Yang used to indoctrinate youth with “gender identity” ideology in New York public schools while working at an LGBT nonprofit funded by the New York State Department of Health. She has since realized the damage she did and has made it her mission to educate America about the efforts at the international, national, state, and local levels by non-profit activists, corporations, and governments to indoctrinate children and teenagers with LGBT ideology. She is also working to help parents counter the lies of these powerful groups and to “deprogram” their kids.

During her recent interviews with “Fox & Friends” and “Fox & Friends Weekend” she explained the other side’s strategy.

“Children, especially teens, are seeking acceptance. They want approval and affirmation, and sometimes that means they’re going to go along with things that they don’t … understand at all. …Group-think is a cult-like mentality. Individual free-thought is suppressed, and the individual is taught that conforming with the group is more important than anything else. …We used themes of acceptance, anti-bullying, and suicide prevention in order to gain sympathy and trust from teachers and parents. And 10 years ago, no one had ever heard of a trans child. The work I was doing at the LGBT Center was helping to pave the way for the creation of the normalization of the so-called ‘trans child.’ Children are not trans, and children cannot consent to puberty blockers, wrong sex hormones, and surgeries that alter their healthy bodies and sterilize them.”

Yang went on to explain, “In addition to indoctrinating children in public schools, I was also responsible for co-leading these ‘cultural competency trainings,’ and we would instruct adults in the ‘correct ways’ to think about and talk about trans identities [at businesses and even churches]. These changes in the workplace are being pushed from the top down by international bodies like the U.N. and the World Economic Forum, and they’re dictating these new workplace norms by financially coercing the global corporate power structure to play along.”

Yang’s description of her activist work is an example of the many ways that leftist organizations, unions, and governments intentionally indoctrinate children which often leads to broken family relationships. (Watch and listen to the heartbreaking story of Wendell Perez at our 2022 Pray Vote Stand Summit for an example of a family that has been hurt.)

Another avenue for leftist activists to influence children is through school counseling. The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) instructs school counselors nationwide on how to push gender theory on children and intentionally put a wedge between parents and children.

Along with FRC’s, Meg Kilgannon, Alvin Lui was on “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” in January. He explained how woke educators, counselors, and activists are “creating a nation full of social justice activists or revolutionists. No different than the Red Guard, no different than any other country does. … The first thing they have to do is separate the children from their families. Now, in most other countries, they can do it by class. But here in America, you can’t do it by class. So you have to do it by race, by sex. And that’s what they’re doing in the schools, is they’re slowly and not so slowly brainwashing kids to hate America, to be anti-American and to separate them from their families.”

During the interview, Perkins played a clip of former president of the ASCA, Carolyn Stone, speaking at a conference called “No Limits” this past summer in Austin, Texas. Mr. Lui explained, “… She starts off by saying that a young counselor went to her and said that she took a young girl to get contraceptives against the mother’s wishes. … She [gives] her three choices. Either you tell the girl to tell her mother what happened to you, confess to it, or (three) you hold your breath and pray — meaning that hopefully [the] mother doesn’t find out. And then you heard everybody laugh. Pick number three. And so that’s just one of many examples where school counselors and social workers today are training school counselors across the country in every school district to keep secrets from parents.”

Despite the influence that leftist groups have on our children and our culture, we have reason to be hopeful: a growing number of countries have taken steps recently to pull back on transgender medical treatments for gender-dysphoric children. In addition, Yang and Lui are just two of a growing number of people who are working to educate and equip parents, schools, and communities to put a stop to the Left’s abuse of America’s children. Lui is president of Courage is a Habit, an organization whose mission is to “create actionable tools for parents so they can confidently fight for their children without apology.” Other organizations that are helping those who face questions about identity and sexuality are Do No Harm, DeTrans Foundation, and Sex Change Regret.

There's also good news on the legislative front to uphold parents’ rights in education: Rep. Julia Letlow (R-La.) has introduced HR 6056, the Parents Rights in Education Act, which outlines various rights of parents and guardians regarding the elementary or secondary school education of their children. Among other requirements, the bill (1) directs local educational agencies to publicly post the curriculum for each elementary and secondary school grade level; and (2) requires schools to notify parents and guardians of their rights, including the right to review the school’s curriculum and budget. (For more on the bill, check out this interview with Meg Kilgannon on “Washington Watch.”) This legislation is a great model for states to use.

Parents should be the most important adult relationship a child has. Thankfully, more and more parents across the country — regardless of their political party affiliation — have realized that “gender theory” (especially transgender indoctrination) is deeply hurting their kids, and they are working hard to teach them the truth about gender and sexuality. For some resources to help you fight transgender ideology in your children’s school, see here. Finally, some resources to help you discuss these issues with your children are “Mama Bear Apologetics: Guide to Sexuality” and Nancy Pearcey’s book, “Love Thy Body.”

Ultimately, while gender theory is a controversial issue that creates strong emotions, we should ask God to fill us with the Holy Spirit and help us show love to those who are hurting, remembering that gender dysphoria is a spiritual issue.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand (Ephesians 6:12-13).
