Pivotal Week for Prayer Warriors as Netanyahu Arrives in D.C.

July 7, 2025

President Donald Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last night, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Of course, President Trump recently destroyed some key Iranian nuclear facilities while managing to immediately broker an uneasy ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Now he’s calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, an even taller order as the long-time enemies there continue to swap missiles. While it is tempting to relax now that Iran and Israel have taken a break from their fighting, this moment could be the calm before the storm of a greater conflict and even leadership change for Iran. Remember how suddenly the war with Iran began a few weeks ago? It could happen again.

Several crucial things hang in the balance this week for attentive prayer warriors.

  • First, Netanyahu’s meetings in D.C. We saw how Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has yet to recover from his blunders when he visited the Oval Office. The Israeli leader is likely more competent. He is set to meet with Vice President J.D. Vance Tuesday as well as other congressional leaders. On Wednesday, Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and then he’s off to host an event for Jewish and evangelical leaders, a key demographic. Other meetings could be thrown onto the books last minute as well.
  • The war in Gaza and the civilians there, many of whom are Christians, as well as the hostages. Trump says a deal could be close.
  • Possible escalation of war with Iran, which could restart at any moment and involve other nations, possibly igniting a third world war.
  • Trump’s agenda is in danger of having its best elements derailed and distracted from if he botches this foreign policy moment. Deportations of criminal illegal immigrants, rooting DEI out of the federal government, defunding abortion and gender transitions, and more require political momentum that could be squandered in a mishandling of this issue.
  • American support for Israel is slipping.
  • Anti-Semitism and violence are on the rise.
  • The Republican Party is increasingly split on support for Israel as support among Democrats craters.
  • Russia and Ukraine are watching closely. Russia continues to slog away in Ukraine, and China’s leader has made clear he plans to invade Taiwan by 2027. Notably, an aircraft carrier was removed from the South China Sea to back up Israel in what is now called the 12-Day War.

Any one of those reasons is enough cause to pray. All of them together are a clear call for the church to cover this week, particularly Netanyahu’s visit and President Trump’s deliberations, in prayer. President Trump must navigate a litany of mines Kingdom-minded Americans want to avoid. I understand you may be tempted to grow weary because the news cycle delivers a new emergency weekly. But these are global issues with eschatological implications, and it appears the stakes will only get higher as we accelerate into the last days.

President Trump needs wisdom more than ever right now, for America, Israel, and the region at large.

Please pray with me:

Father, we pray that you would release your Spirit of Wisdom to President Trump, Vice President Vance, Secretary Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and leaders in Congress as they consider the path forward in the Middle East. Lord, this situation is so complicated that we need heavenly wisdom. Man’s plans have failed. Release your grace to our leaders so they can make decisions in alignment with your wisdom in this hour. Amen.
