Despite Catholicism, Biden Reinforces Transgender Support in Defiance of Vatican Declaration

April 10, 2024

Self-described Catholic Joe Biden’s administration is rejecting the Vatican’s latest declaration on morality and doubling down on LGBT advancement. After the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) released the document “Dignitas Infinita,” a declaration on moral treatment of human dignity, on Monday, a reporter asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about the president’s reaction to the document, especially its condemnation of “gender theory” and prohibition on gender transition procedures.

Jean-Pierre responded, “So, we are pleased to see that the document you just mentioned … further [sic] the Vatican’s call to ensure that LGBTQ+ are protected from violence and imprisonment around the world.” She continued, “However, the President will continue to be an advocate for the rights, safety, and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community, including transgender people, here in the U.S. — and not just here in the U.S. but also around the world.”

“Regarding gender theory, whose scientific coherence is the subject of considerable debate among experts, the Church recalls that human life in all its dimensions, both physical and spiritual, is a gift from God,” the Vatican document declared. “Desiring a personal self-determination, as gender theory prescribes, apart from this fundamental truth that human life is a gift, amounts to a concession to the age-old temptation to make oneself God, entering into competition with the true God of love revealed to us in the Gospel.”

“Dignitas Infinita” also states that, since humans are both made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27) and are “inseparably composed of both body and soul,” gender transition procedures are morally impermissible. The document clarifies, “It follows that any sex-change intervention, as a rule, risks threatening the unique dignity the person has received from the moment of conception.”

When pressed to respond to these particular claims, Jean-Pierre said, “Look, I’m going to be really careful and — and the President’s role to — to litigate internal Church policy. It’s not — that’s not his role. So, I’m going to be super careful there.” She added, “But I can speak to the President’s stance, and he’s always been very clear on the importance of protecting — or having protections for the transgender community and the broader LGBTQ+ community. And that’s been very clear since day one of his administration.”

“Dignitas Infinita” also reiterated the Catholic Church’s centuries-old condemnation of abortion, stating, “On account of the intangible value of human life, the Church’s magisterium has always spoken out against abortion.” Referring to abortion as “deplorable,” the document continues, “Reason alone is sufficient to recognize the inviolable value of each single human life, but if we also look at the issue from the standpoint of faith, ‘every violation of the personal dignity of the human being cries out in vengeance to God and is an offense against the Creator of the individual.’”

Yet Biden has made abortion his top reelection priority. He has pledged to “restore” and even expand the provisions of Roe v. Wade, poured millions of dollars into pro-abortion propaganda campaigns, ceremoniously commemorated Roe’s anniversary, prosecuted and imprisoned pro-life Americans, and weaponized federal agencies to commit abortions.

Archbishop Timothy Broglio, head of the Catholic military archdiocese and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), has blasted Biden’s abortion advocacy, particularly the president’s use of military-related agencies to skirt pro-life laws. Cardinal Wilton Gregory, archbishop of Washington, D.C., recently called Biden a “cafeteria Catholic” for rejecting the Church’s teachings on abortion. And Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia, who also serves as chair of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, reiterated Gregory’s statement and condemned Biden’s abortion agenda last week. “If you’re for the Lord then you’re all in and that means following his gospel and embracing the gospel of life,” Burbidge said. “You can’t pick and choose.”
