Planned Parenthood Teaches 1.2 Million Schoolchildren Per Year

September 18, 2024

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s most prosperous abortion business, committing hundreds of thousands of abortions a year, but its website boasts of another feat: its ability to reach children with a controversial sex education curriculum one expert says does “a horrible and deadly disservice” to kids. Planned Parenthood’s sex ed lessons teach children under the age of 10 about prostitution. They also cover gender identity, LGBTQ “skills,” and how to get an abortion without parental consent or notification.

“Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest provider of sex education, reaching 1.2 million people a year through education and outreach,” boasts its website.

The business, carried out by teachers affiliated with the abortion franchise’s affiliates, targets children with indoctrination in a broad swath of topics advancing the Sexual Revolution. Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky (PPGNHAIK) — which also covers western Washington State — explains that its “team of educators are [sic] providing impactful education programming in communities across our 6-state region.” They teach teens “[h]uman development (including reproduction, puberty, sexual orientation, and gender identity),” as well as “Society and culture (including gender roles, diversity, and sexuality in the media).” Its LGBTQ-themed curriculum, IN·clued, aimed at children aged 14-19, promises to “[e]mpower LGBTQ+ youth with sexual health knowledge and skills.” This involves “[r]edefining sex for LGBTQ+ youth.” The curriculum blames higher rates of STDs among LGBTQ-identifying teens, not on more promiscuous and risky sexual behaviors, but on undocumented “greater harassment and discrimination.” It claims it has created “positive outcomes,” including “sexual health knowledge” and “self-efficacy.”

“Notably absent, is any mention of chastity, expectant motherhood, fetal development, or parenting. Planned Parenthood teaches children to be sexually promiscuous so they will then need its abortion and birth control services later on,” said Katie Brown, the national director of the American Life League, in a statement emailed to The Washington Stand.

Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (PPPSW)’s “Sex Ed To-Go” program has curricula aimed at everything from abortion to lessons aimed at children as young as fourth grade. It offers three courses on abortion (at no charge). Its course on “How Abortion Works” describes abortion as “a common medical procedure.” A course on “Barriers to Abortion Care” includes a section titled “What Is Judicial Bypass?” which informs teens about how to obtain an abortion without parental involvement. The unit on “logistical barriers” includes a section on pregnancy resource centers. (Numerous Planned Parenthood businesses offer detailed instructions on how to keep parents in the dark on their websites.) Its lesson on “Supporting Abortion Access” teaches teens how they can serve Planned Parenthood’s financial interests by becoming “a strong advocate for abortion access in your community.”

“Public schools are allowing the organization that killed almost 393,000 preborn children by abortion in 2023 unfettered access to thousands of elementary, middle, and high school students in their classrooms, and it is spending taxpayer dollars to do so,” Brown told TWS.

Planned Parenthood committed 392,712 abortions and received $699.3 million in taxpayer funding in the 2022-2023 fiscal year, according to its most recent annual report.

Sometimes parents must sue to find out what their children are learning. Nicole Solas asked for information about the curriculum of her Rhode Island school district when enrolling her child in kindergarten in 2020 — specifically, whether her daughter would encounter any lessons about such controversial issues as gender identity or critical race theory (CRT). The South Kingstown School District responded by demanding $74,000 as a public records fee for furnishing the information and barred her from attending meetings of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Advisory Board. In 2021, she sued for the information — a case she won, with the help of the Goldwater Institute, in May. In the meantime, she faced a lawsuit from the local teachers union.

Solas has drawn attention to Planned Parenthood lessons that teach elementary school children about prostitution. She noted in February 2023 that the International Planned Parenthood Federation’s “comprehensive sexuality education” (CSE) curriculum titled “Deliver and Enable,” aimed at children “Under 10,” teaches students, “Sexual activity may be part of different types of relationships, including dating, marriage, or commercial sex work, among others.”

The proponents of “comprehensive sexuality education” have confirmed that such lessons are an intentional part of those groups’ culture war against parents and broader American society — a war they force those parents to fund with their tax dollars. SIECUS: Sex Ed for Social Change, has stated, “With sex education, we have a golden opportunity to create a culture shift — tackling the misinformation, shame, and stigma” of abortion and LGBTQ practices, as well as “[d]ismantling white supremacy.” Planned Parenthood holds up the SIECUS Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education as one of “several important resources that help with implementing sex education.”

Such groups have powerful allies at the World Health Organization (WHO). Late this spring, WHO released the second edition of its adolescent health report titled “Working for a brighter, healthier future,” in which WHO praised groups for “delivering comprehensive sexuality education to different groups of adolescents in the out-of-school context” during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Former abortionist Carol Everett has explained how “sex education sells abortions” to underage girls. “You have to break down the natural modesty. You have to become the experts in their lives, and you have to separate them from their parents and their values,” she said.

The first lesson, taught in kindergarten, aims to undermine parents as a competent source of authority and establish the abortionist as the trusted partner on sexual issues, Everett revealed. That sets up children, especially young girls, as lifelong customers.

Such tactics apparently continue to this day. Before the beginning of this school year this August, Planned Parenthood of Northern, Central, and Southern New Jersey (PPNCSNJ) told children, “Whether you need a wellness exam, are interested in birth control, want some free condoms (seriously — NSA), or just have questions, we have locations all across New Jersey.”

Despite this anti-Christian agenda, about 10% of the nation’s Christian colleges have ties to Planned Parenthood, according to a study from The Institute for Pro-Life Advancement. The institute, which is affiliated with Students for Life of America, found that 76 of 767 universities affiliated with Christian denominations had a relationship with the nation’s largest abortion chain. Moravian College reportedly told the group it would continue recommending that its psychology students take an internship at Planned Parenthood, “because it is important for them to best understand the world they are entering.” Pacific Lutheran University proudly replied, “[W]e market Planned Parenthood’s contraception and women’s services.” Schools affiliated with the Roman Catholic, United Methodist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran denominations had the highest number of Planned Parenthood ties. “Baptist, Pentecostal, [n]on-[d]enominational, and Wesleyan traditions maintained no relationships with the abortion industry throughout all schools within their denomination,” the report noted.

“What does it look like when Planned Parenthood presents sexual education?” asks Brown. “Unfortunately, it’s not about how God created our bodies uniquely male and female to bring children into the world. No, Planned Parenthood’s top services are abortion and birth control, clearly illustrating this organization’s complete lack of respect for the life that God created and total disregard for His plan for procreation and families. This is not an entity that anyone should ever trust to care for and instruct our precious children,” Brown told TWS. “Our children are America’s most precious commodity, and we can’t let them be abused by an entity that views them as disposable fodder for an ideology that devalues them and their very existence by insisting that they are expendable before and up to the moment, even after, they are born.

“Allowing Planned Parenthood to teach our children about anything does these young ones a horrible — and deadly — disservice,” she concluded.
